T-Birds Announce David Ortiz Night Sellout

Springfield, MA - The Springfield Thunderbirds today announced that their game on Saturday, November 11 - David Ortiz Night - has officially sold out, making it the second MassMutual Center sellout for a Thunderbirds game this season. This special game night is presented by Gagliarducci Construction, Fontaine Bros., Inc., Thermo Pride, and USA Hauling.

 

“Hey @thunderbirdsahl congrats on the Opening Night sellout," Ortiz said in a statement on his social media accounts on October 23. "(I) can't wait to see you all on Nov. 11, heard it's going to be a packed house!!!"

 

Before the game, there will be a special VIP Meet-and-Greet for David Ortiz Night VIP package holders, which will include a photo with Big Papi.

 

‘Big Papi’ will then be in the spotlight for a pregame puck drop ceremony, as well as throughout the first intermission, where he will be down on the ice for special entertainment and activities. Fans are encouraged to arrive early to receive a special edition oversized David Ortiz card commemorating the evening.

 

"We have had David Ortiz Night circled on our calendar ever since the announcement of his appearance earlier in the fall," said Thunderbirds President Nathan Costa. "We are thrilled to say we will be packing the MassMutual Center for what is sure to be one of the storybook nights in Springfield Thunderbirds history as we salute a true icon to so many people in Western Massachusetts."

 

During the game, the Thunderbirds will be wearing Red Sox inspired specialty jerseys, which will be up for sale in a live, post-game auction on the MassMutual Center concourse. In addition, Ortiz will be bringing the 2013 Red Sox World Series trophy on his journey to Springfield. Fans will have the opportunity to take pictures with the trophy free of charge, made possible with the support of MGM Springfield.

While November 11 will mark Ortiz’s appearance in Springfield, it will not be the only night where 'Big Papi' is highlighted on the promotional calendar. On Saturday, February 17, Ortiz's appearance in Springfield will be commemorated with a special edition bobblehead depicting the beloved 'Big Papi' in a Thunderbirds jersey.
