T-BIRDS OPEN DIVISIONAL 3-IN-3 VS. HARTFORD

Mar 1, 2019

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Springfield Thunderbirds (22-23-6-5) open their first 3-in-3 during the month of March as they host the Hartford Wolf Pack (23-26-6-3) on Friday night for a 7:05 p.m. puck drop at the MassMutual Center. From there, the Thunderbirds will begin a home-and-home with the Providence Bruins (28-20-7-1) with a 7:05 p.m. Saturday night tangle at the Thunderdome before facing the Bruins at the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Sunday for a 3:05 p.m. start.

The Thunderbirds will try to exact an ounce of payback against the Wolf Pack following a 3-2 Hartford win on Feb. 22 inside the XL Center. Springfield made the Wolf Pack work for the victory late in the game, scoring twice in the game's final two minutes to cut a 3-0 lead down to 3-2. Springfield also rang the iron with a shot in the game's final seconds, narrowly missing sending the game into overtime. The T-Birds have dominated the Wolf Pack historically inside the MassMutual Center, with an all-time record of 11-2-0-0 against Hartford on their home ice.

The last time the I-91 rivalry descended upon Springfield, the T-Birds rattled off five tallies in a 5-2 win on Feb. 1. Springfield has scored 11 goals in its two prior home games against the Wolf Pack.

On Saturday, the T-Birds renew acquaintances with the team they will see 14 times before the season comes to a close. Springfield will look to gain ground on the 4th-place Bruins, who have fallen in five of nine meetings thus far against the Thunderbirds. Springfield dispatched the Bruins by a 5-1 final score on Feb. 17 inside the Dunkin' Donuts Center, where the two clubs will meet again to close the home-and-home on Sunday afternoon.

Tonight at the Thunderdome marks Boomer Bobblehead night presented by Stop & Shop, and on Saturday, March 2, New England Patriots Super Bowl champion Trey Flowers will be on hand for a meet-and-greet beginning at 6:00 p.m. on the MassMutual Center concourse.
