Springfield Thunderbirds 2017-18 Season – At A Glance
Opening Night & Pregame Block Party Featuring Trailer Trash, Presented by MGM Springfield
(Thunderbirds vs. Hartford Wolf Pack, Sat., Oct. 14, 7:05 p.m. ET; Block party 4:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m. ET)
In anticipation of another Opening Night sellout crowd, which would be the second straight for the Thunderbirds, the team will once again kick off the season with a meshing of music, food & drink, and outdoor entertainment with a Pregame Block Party from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. ET. Fans will have to arrive early to appreciate this spectacle, which this year will feature Western Massachusetts’ own music group, Trailer Trash. More details on the block party, including food & drink pricing will be made available in the coming weeks.
As the scene shifts inside the MassMutual Center for the Thunderbirds contest against the rival Hartford Wolf Pack, the season’s start will once again come with an electric atmosphere, complete with pyrotechnics, a jersey-inspired collectible banner for all fans, and a magnet schedule giveaway. Every child admitted into the game will also receive T-Birds thundersticks to ramp up the energy in what is expected to be an already-boisterous crowd.
Rene Rancourt Anthem Performance Presented by King Ward Coach Lines
(Thunderbirds vs. Providence Bruins, Fri., Oct. 20, 7:05 p.m. ET)
The Thunderbirds will play host to the Providence Bruins seven times during the 2017-18 season. Fittingly, the season series will begin with yet another special appearance by legendary Boston Bruins anthem vocalist Rene Rancourt. The iconic singer will kick off the night with his trademark rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” before the Thunderbirds square off with their division rivals. The night also marks the debut of 3-2-1 Fridays.
David Ortiz Night featuring an Appearance by "Big Papi"

The Springfield Thunderbirds are thrilled to welcome "Big Papi," David Ortiz, to the Thunderbirds game on Saturday, November 11 at 7:05 p.m. ET against the Laval Rocket.
Fans can reserve their place at the MassMutual Center on David Ortiz Night by purchasing an Opening Night Pack. Starting at just $99, Opening Night Pack buyers will receive the following:

T-Birds 101 - School Day Game

For the first time in Springfield hockey history, the arena will double as a classroom for thousands of Western Massachusetts school children in the first morning School Day game. Elements of the game presentation that morning will provide students a unique educational experience linked to the sport of hockey.
Teddy Bear Toss Presented by Teddy Bear Pools and Spas
(Thunderbirds vs. Bridgeport Sound Tigers, Sat., Dec. 9, 7:05 p.m. ET)
After nearly 3,000 teddy bears rained down onto the MassMutual Center ice a year ago, the Thunderbirds look to raise the stuffed animal donation total during the 2nd Annual Teddy Bear Toss on Dec. 9. Fans are encouraged to bring new or lightly used stuffed animals to throw onto the ice in celebration of Springfield’s first goal. The stuffed animals will, in turn, be donated to area charities leading up to the holidays.
Blast from the Past Night - Springfield Indians Specialty Jersey
(Thunderbirds vs. Providence Bruins, Sat., Jan. 6, 7:05 p.m. ET)
Springfield will take some time to salute its storied hockey past during a rivalry matchup with Providence. In honoring the past Calder Cup champion Springfield Indians, the Thunderbirds will sport jerseys paying homage to the beloved Indians. Jersey designs will be revealed in the weeks leading up to the game. Following the game that night, the highly sought-after jerseys will be auctioned off live inside the MassMutual Center.
Marvel™ & Hometown Superheroes Night Presented by United Bank
(Thunderbirds vs. Providence Bruins, Sat., Jan. 27, 7:05 p.m. ET)
Not all heroes wear capes, but all heroes will be recognized for Marvel™ & Hometown Superheroes Night. Iron Man™ and Spiderman™ will be among the heroes present, but so too will be the Pioneer Valley’s everyday heroes. Springfield police, fire, and first responders will receive their much-deserved praise and appreciation, complete with appearances by emergency vehicles of the respective departments.
Military Appreciation Night Presented by Big Y
(Thunderbirds vs. Charlotte Checkers, Sat., March 3, 7:05 p.m. ET)
In continued support and celebration of Western Massachusetts’ strong military connection with the Thunderbirds, the team will dedicate a night to the servicemen and women who put their country as a top priority. Special offers for military personnel will be made available for this night, separate from the military pricing available at every home game this season.
Pink in the Rink Presented by Baystate Health to benefit Rays of Hope
(Thunderbirds vs. Utica Comets, Sat., March 10, 7;05 p.m. ET)
An annual tradition was born in Thunderbirds hockey last season with the first ever Pink in the Rink night. After a sellout crowd witnessed a resounding win in the first installment, breast cancer survivors will once again be the biggest warriors on the ice during a poignant pregame ceremony. The Thunderbirds will sport a specialty pink jersey and skate on pink ice as a show of support to those who have battled the disease. Jerseys will be auctioned post-game, with proceeds benefiting the Rays of Hope Foundation in conjunction with Baystate Health.
Pucks N’ Paws
(Thunderbirds vs. Utica Comets, Sat., March 31, 7:05 p.m. ET)
In March of 2016, the Thunderbirds encouraged dog owners to bring their pets to the game for the first time in Springfield hockey history. Pucks N’ Paws will make its comeback to the MassMutual Center exactly a year later. Fans will be able to purchase “dog tickets” to bring their four-legged friends into the game. Dogs and owners will be placed in a special dog section for the evening.
Boomer Bobblehead Presented by Stop & Shop / Fan Appreciation Weekend
(Thunderbirds vs. Providence Bruins, Sat., April 14, 7:05 p.m. ET)
As part of Fan Appreciation Weekend, the Thunderbirds will close their regular season with the second installment of the Boomer Bobblehead, compliments of Stop N’ Shop. Prior to the regular season finale, much like Opening Night, a block party will be part of the closing ceremonies prior to puck drop for the Thunderbirds against the Providence Bruins.

The Thunderbirds are pleased to bring back a special value offer for families on Sunday afternoons with the return of Sundae Fundays.
A family of four will have the ability to purchase four tickets with food additions (four hot dogs, four small popcorns, four sodas) as part of the Sundae Funday Pack. Four packs will be available for $44 in the Defense zone (sections 28-31, 1-5), $55 in the Attack zone (sections 13-20), and $66 in the Center Value area (sections 6-7, 11-12, 21-22, 26-27).
The Sundae Funday packs will be available for purchase up to 24 hours before Sunday game times at the MassMutual Center.

The Thunderbirds’ five weekday games will provide fans with extra incentives to cheer the team to victory on Winning Weekdays. Should the Thunderbirds win on a weekday, any fan who had a ticket to the winning game will receive a free ticket to the following weekday game on the Thunderbirds schedule.
