T-Birds Tailgate Kicks Off Opening Night Festivities

Springfield, MA – The Springfield Thunderbirds on Monday announced the release of single game tickets for all home games during the 2016-17 AHL regular season presented by MGM Springfield.

The Thunderbirds begin their 38-game home schedule for Opening Night against the St. John’s Ice Caps on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 7:05 p.m. ET.  All fans in attendance will receive a white inaugural season Thunderbirds t-shirt on their seat, as well as thunder sticks. Fans are encouraged to wear the white t-shirts for the historic evening.

For Opening Night, Thunderbirds fans are strongly advised to arrive early, as the team is also pleased to be holding the T-Birds Tailgate, which will commence at 4:00 p.m. ET. The block party atmosphere will encircle the MassMutual Center at Court Square in celebration of the new era of AHL hockey in Springfield.

The celebration will begin with a live musical performance from Briefcase Full of Blues, in addition to available food and refreshments, compliments of Student Prince and Nadim’s. $3 draft beers will be served for the duration of the pregame festivities.

“We’re excited to put tickets on sale for the new era of hockey here in Springfield, including single game tickets for our very special inaugural home opener versus the St. John’s Ice Caps on October 22nd,” said Thunderbirds Executive Vice President Nathan Costa. “The evening is going to be one that you will not want to miss, as we have been working diligently to provide a fun-filled evening for all, starting at 4:00 PM with the first-ever T-Birds Tailgate, and continuing throughout the evening with a number of giveaways and activities. This will be just a taste of what fans can expect all year with the Thunderbirds.”

Following the conclusion of the Thunderbirds-Ice Caps game, the special evening continues, as the Thunderbirds will host a post-game party at The Shops at Marketplace (1341 Main Street, rear), directly across from the MassMutual Center and Bruce Landon Way. Food and refreshments will be served, in addition to there being musical entertainment from Jake Manzi.

Single game ticket prices start as low as $10 in the brand new Power Play sections located in designated rows within sections 31, 1, and 2. The single game ticket prices will be honored for each of the 38 home games at the MassMutual Center in the 2016-17 regular season.

Thunderbirds fans are reminded that there will be free parking on a first-come, first-served basis for the entire 2016-17 season. The offer is only available in the Civic Center garage on Bruce Landon Way until capacity is reached. Each car will be required to present a game ticket upon exiting the garage to have free parking honored.

Opening Night packs are available, courtesy of Dunkin’ Donuts, for the first regular season home game in Thunderbirds history. Packages start at $75 and feature two Opening Night tickets, four ticket vouchers, a commemorative puck, and a $5 Dunkin’ Donuts gift card.
