Springfield, MA- The Springfield Thunderbirds are privileged to honor one of Springfield's pioneering hockey figures on Friday, March 3 at the MassMutual Center as part of Bruce Landon Legacy Night prior to the Thunderbirds' game against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms at 7:05 p.m. ET.

Fans are encouraged to arrive early for a special on-ice ceremony before the game in Landon's honor, where he will be inducted into the newly resurrected Springfield Hockey Hall of Fame. In addition, the first 1,500 fans in attendance at the MassMutual Center that evening will receive a commemorative Bruce Landon bobblehead presented by Teddy Bear Pools & Spas and Insurance Center of New England.

A 2016 inductee into the American Hockey League Hall of Fame, Landon's five decades of service to hockey in Springfield date back to his first Calder Cup championship as a goaltender for the Springfield Kings in 1971. Following his playing career, Landon was hired by the Springfield Indians organization as an executive and broadcaster, where he captured the Ken McKenzie Award in 1979, honoring the individual who accomplished the most during the season in promoting his AHL team.

Landon added the James C. Hendy Memorial Award to his trophy case in 1981, presented yearly to the executive who made the most outstanding contribution to the American Hockey League. Perhaps most notably, Landon's legacy features back-to-back Calder Cup titles as general manager of the Springfield Indians in 1989-90 and 1990-91. He was also instrumental in bringing the Springfield Falcons into the AHL in 1994, after which time he served as President of the organization for 20 years.

The latest honor in Landon's storied tenure in Springfield came this past summer, when the street running perpendicular to Main Street beside the MassMutual Center was renamed Bruce Landon Way on June 15, 2016.
