Springfield, Mass. --- Springfield Police Commissioner Cheryl Clapprood, Springfield Fire Commissioner B.J. Calvi along with Springfield Thunderbirds President Nathan Costa announced an Ice Hockey Game between members of the Springfield Police Department & members of the Springfield Fire Department prior to the Thunderbirds game Saturday night at the MassMutual Center.  Donations from this game and throughout the weekend will go to the memorial fund for fallen Worcester Fire Lt. Jason Menard’s family.  50 50 menard.jpg

“I’m looking forward to the game and more importantly being able to help Lt. Menard’s family,” said Springfield Fire Commissioner B.J. Calvi.

“We are honored to help support Commissioner Calvi and the SFD Local 648 in this endeavor to raise money for the family of a fallen fellow first responder.  The Springfield Police Department is thinking of Lt. Menard’s family in this painful time,” said Springfield Police Commissioner Cheryl Clapprood.

This weekend at the Thunderbirds games on Friday and Saturday nights, SFD Local 648 will have a table set up in the concourse area behind Section 27 and members of the Fire Department will be walking around asking you to fill up their boot.   The Thunderbirds are also graciously donating their portion of Friday and Saturday’s 50/50 raffle to the same memorial fund.

The Thunderbirds and Fire Department will also pay tribute to Lt. Menard by having Springfield Fire Department Engines outside of the main entrance of the MassMutual Center for both games this weekend.

Springfield Thunderbirds President Nathan Costa stated, “The recent passing of Lt. Jason Menard has affected all of us who live in the state of Massachusetts – it especially hits home with people like me that have family members who are firefighters that risk their lives every day for the safety of others,” said Costa. “We want to provide an outlet for the firefighter brotherhood here in Springfield to raise money for the family of a true hero, and we couldn’t think of a better way than to donate the proceeds of our 50/50 raffle at both games this weekend, in addition to supporting local firefighters that will be passing the boot all weekend inside the MassMutual Center.”

The public is invited to attend Saturday’s game between the Police & Fire Departments at 4:45 p.m., and admission to that game will get you into the Thunderbirds game Saturday night. To purchase your ticket to both games, click here.

Please Note: If you're not attending the game, but are in the state of Massachusetts, you will have the ability to purchase 50-50 tickets and be eligible to win the prize both Friday, Nov. 22 and Saturday, Nov. 23, while contributing to the fundraiser for the Menard family in the process.
