Statement from GM Eric Joyce Regarding Mike Downing

Nov 10, 2018
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - This morning, Thunderbirds general manager Eric Joyce released the following statement regarding Mike Downing:

“Mike was held overnight for evaluation, but had all his facilities and is resting comfortably. He is day-to-day and expected to make a full recovery.

My number one goal once a player gets injured is to assist in getting that player the best care, and making sure his loved ones are well informed. Our staff, led by Alex Ambrose, did an unbelievable job of responding quickly, getting Mike the trauma care he needed immediately, and getting him to the proper hospital for further care.

Mike, his family and all of our players and staff really appreciate the well wishes. It really means a lot to us. We ask our players to sacrifice their bodies for the good of the team all the time, and sometimes unfortunate situations like this happen. When they do, it means so much that that sacrifice is recognized by our great fans and they truly care about our players on and off the ice. Thanks again, and we’ll get back on the horse tonight against Hershey.”
