T-BIRDS LOOK TO SNAP OUT OF OFFENSIVE FUNK IN BRIDGEPORT WEDNESDAY

Jan 23, 2018
Bridgeport, CT – The Springfield Thunderbirds (19-23-1-1) will look to break a two-game funk on Wednesday night when they visit the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (20-15-4-2) at the Webster Bank Arena for a 7:00 p.m. puck drop.

The Thunderbirds offense scored three goals in the first 17:00 of action on Friday night, but since then, Springfield has failed to score for the last 103 minutes of game action, the longest such drought in franchise history.

Despite the offensive struggle in a 2-0 loss to Providence on Sunday, the Thunderbirds still had a star performance on the part of Sam Montembeault, who recorded a franchise record 47 saves on 48 shots. It took a Ryan Fitzgerald bank shot to steal the game from Springfield before Jordan Szwarz added an empty-netter for the Bruins.

Springfield has fared well against the Sound Tigers of late, winning each of the last three matchups in the season series. The Thunderbirds outscored Bridgeport 14-9 in the three victories. Bridgeport won the first two matchups in the season series with a pair of one-goal victories in the month of November. The home team has won each of the five games thus far between Bridgeport and Springfield.

The Sound Tigers have won two straight games, but just four out of their last ten contests, while the Thunderbirds have won five of their last seven, having put together a five-game winning streak before falling Friday to Binghamton and Sunday in Providence.

The Thunderbirds' final week before the All-Star Classic will see three games against just two teams - the Sound Tigers and Bruins. Bridgeport visits Springfield on Friday night for a rematch at the MassMutual Center, while the Providence Bruins come to town on Saturday night. Both games will start at 7:05 p.m. ET.
